Vodní bezobratlí prameništních slatinišť Západních Karpat
V poslední době se zaměřujeme i na studium distribuce vodních bezobratlých v malém měřítku, na kterém vystupuje do popředí rozmanitost prostředí i vliv biotických vztahů. Slatiniště totiž mnohdy vykazují značnou prostorovou heterogenitu, jež umožňuje koexistenci mnoha druhů na jedné lokalitě, které tak mají možnost spolu interagovat. Abychom objasnili mechanizmy koexistence, zkoumáme ekologické niky jednotlivých druhů, jejich prostorovou, případně časovou segregaci a dokumentujeme konkrétní případy kompetice a predace mezi slatiništními druhy.

Spring fens are valuable wetland habitats accommodating specific fauna and flora. Besides the fact that they are presently rather rare, they are threatened by human activities and climate change. Western Carpathian spring fens are scattered across the foothills, where we can, due to the great variability of bedrock geology, explore the unique gradient of mineral richness. For the last 10 years, we have been intensively studying the influence of environmental variables, mainly the mineral-trophic gradient, on various groups of aquatic invertebrates. Due to isolation and different ages of individual spring fen sites, colonisation processes play a vital role in the community formation. We analyse to what extent is the community formation shaped by dispersal strategies of the particular taxa and their specialisation to spring fen habitats.
Recently, we began to focus on small-scale distribution of aquatic invertebrates, which highlight the effect of habitat heterogeneity and biotic relationships. Spring fens are characterised by high spatial heterogeneity, which allows for coexistence of many species at one site and their consequent interactions. To clarify the mechanisms of coexistence, we investigate ecological niches of the individual species, their spatial or temporal segregation, and document particular cases of competition and predation among the spring fen taxa.
